Why AGEC Law Compliance Matters: Underscoring the Risks
There have been recent cases in France when significant fines have been imposed by the French consumer protection agency (DGCCRF) on retailers for failing to provide required environmental information on textile products sold in France under AGEC.
There are mandatory statements on the Product Sheet of Environmental Qualities & Characteristics under AGEC Law for textiles containing more than 50% synthetic fibres. Since 1 January 2023, producers, importers, and marketers of such products have been legally required to inform consumers of the environmental qualities of their products via a product sheet, which has some similarities to the EU’s Digital Product Passport (DPP).
This is evidence of growing enforcement of AGEC regulations and the significant financial consequences of non-compliance that brands, retailers, and manufacturers of consumer products should be aware of. The law aims to increase transparency and drive more sustainable consumer choices by ensuring that environmental information is accurate and accessible.
