France Adopts New Decree to Ban PFAS in Consumer Products
On 30 December 2025, the French government published Decree No. 2025-1376, introducing strict measures to prevent risks associated with perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The decree applies to a wide range of products, including cosmetics, textiles, footwear, and waterproofing agents. Under this regulation, the manufacture, import, export, and marketing of products containing PFAS will be prohibited as of 1 January 2026.
EU Tightens Limits on PBDEs under POP Regulation
the European Union published Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/1482, amending Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 on persistent organic pollutants (POPs). The aim is to reduce the presence of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) (tetraBDE, pentaBDE, hexaBDE, heptaBDE, decaBDE) in mixtures and articles, including recovered materials, and toys and childcare articles containing or made of recovered materials, strengthening the protection of human health and the environment.
